A Selection of Our Product Specialties

Here are some of the diverse products we have been called on to manufacture for our industrial clients. The parts described here are not stock items, but have been custom-manufactured to client specifications. If you have a need for similar products-- or, for that matter, any wear parts, machine parts or dies not shown here-- we will be pleased to work with you to develop and produce a high-performance, precision part meeting or exceeding your most demanding specifications.

CERBIDETM AUGER VALVES

Auger valves are used to speed the flow of high viscosity pastes and semi-solid materials through a chamber or housing. As the auger screw rotates, the material in the chamber is “pushed” to the end of the chamber and exits through a dispense point. If the material is abrasive, the constant flow can take its toll on the auger and, in time, it will wear and eventually leak. To overcome this problem, Philadelphia Carbide has developed both solid tungsten carbide and Cerbide™ auger valves, whose wear qualities and service life are vastly superior to traditional stainless steel auger valves.
Specifications

SLITTING BLADES FOR CIGAR-MANUFACTURING
CELLOPHANE OVERWRAP MACHINES

We are a contract manufacturer of precision slitting blades for cigar-manufacturing cellophane overwrap machines. We also provide wear resistant & corrosion resistant coatings and cutting tool re-sharpening

Although we manufacture blades from virtually any materials, including tool steels, stainless steel, carbon steels and ceramics, we specialize in the production of tungsten carbide blades. Our tungsten carbide slitting blades have a surface finish of up to 2 RMS and have a service life of more than 100 times that of steel blades.

As a contract manufacturer, all our work is customized to your exact specifications. To this end, we work closely with you on both design and material selection. Whether we are fielding orders for small-quantity prototypes or large quantity production runs, count on Philadelphia Carbide to complete your project on time while maintaining the highest quality control standards in the industry.

MIXER PINS UTILIZING PCC ULTRA LIFE

Cost-effective mixing of gypsum wallboard slurry or other viscous processing materials depends on high-performance, high-capacity mixing pins. We have been a contract manufacturer of precision mixing pins for a wide variety of industrial applications, including wallboard, chemical, plastic, food, dairy, bakery, converting, pharmaceutical, cosmetics, paint, ink, coatings, adhesives, ceramic, beverage, general processing and packaging & related industries, among others.

To meet demanding environmental conditions that require special performance
properties, such as thermal shock resistance or corrosion resistance, we utilize a wide
variety of material formulations & specialty products. For example, nickel binder &
chrome carbide grades along with ceramics are available for corrosive applications

Send us a used pin or drawing and we’ll show you how we can extend the life of your tooling. In most cases, after replacing the standard mixer pins with our PCC Ultra Life, tooling, pin life has increased anywhere from 10x to well over 100x

Carbide-fluted Hollow Point Drill Bits  Hollow point drill bits are used for drilling a wide variety of thin materials, such as layers of paper or fabric. When layered materials are drilled, the resulting waste flows through the hollow passageway of the drill bit. Unless the inside and outside surfaces of the tube are perfectly smooth, the rapid build-up of waste materials can produce considerable friction and heat, resulting in clogging of the tube and melting of the work piece. It is also more difficult to drill a straight, uniform diameter hole as the bit diameter decreases in size and its geometry changes.

Through years of precision machining experience, Philadelphia Carbide has perfected its techniques and successfully overcome the difficulties inherent in manufacturing hollow drill bits. Today, we are the only manufacturer in the United States capable of producing:

     - Carbide-fluted hollow point drill bits featuring outside diameters from 0.062” to         0.625" (custom sizes also available); lengths from 2” and up.
     - Hole sizes:
                    1/16" = .062
                    3/32" = .094
                      1/8" = .125
                    9/64" = .141
                    3/16" = .187
                      1/4" = .250
                     5/16" = .312
                       3/8" = .375
                     7/16" = .437
                       1/2" = .500
                     9/16" = .562
                       5/8" = .625
     - Small diameter bits capable of drilling straight holes while maintaining a uniform
diameter
     - Carbide-tipped and fluted for longer work life
     - Precision-finished inside and outside surfaces to facilitate efficient travel of drilled
waste material without clogging and with minimal heat build-up between bit and work piece

PLUNGER PUMPS FOR WATER JET AND PETROCHEMICAL INDUSTRIES. During the last 30 years, demand for high pressure pumps for water jet blasting and water jet cutting operations has grown dramatically. Philadelphia Carbide has met this need with a wide range of pump components, including plungers,

pistons, backup and distance rings, sleeves, bushings, needles, valve seats, plugs and balls. Our components have been subjected to working pressures in a range of 10,000 psi (750bar) up to 70,000 psi (5000bar). In the past dozen years alone, we have supplied pump parts and components to OEMs around the world and have offered advice on high pressure applications to companies in more than 40 countries.

Today's water jetting pumps often operates in the most demanding service conditions, sometimes in the presence of harsh chemicals, sometimes in a gaseous environment. We have developed special grades of ceramics and carbides, specially tailored for different service conditions, to ensure optimum performance and long life for your parts and components.

Philadelphia Carbide is one of a small number of companies capable of finishing your plungers to a surface finish of up to 0.3 RMSD (.005µm). This exceptional finish is crucial to maximize your plungers and packing service life.

All parts manufactured by Philadelphia Carbide go through extensive quality control to guarantee they meet all your technical specifications---starting from certification to ensure the purity and physical properties of the raw materials, through rigid manufacturing controls, to highly advanced measurement capabilities of the final product.

Cerbides. One of the most extraordinary new materials to come along in recent years is CerbideTM, which combines the properties of ceramics and cemented tungsten carbide. Cerbide offers measurably higher levels of abrasion and erosion resistance than tungsten carbide and has remarkable formability as well. Ask your Philadelphia Carbide sales representative if Cerbide is right for your application.

Need threaded rods? If you’ve ever experienced difficulty finding a machine shop capable of manufacturing hard-to-thread carbide rods or studs, your search is over. Count on Philadelphia Carbide for coarse or fine threaded rods 1/8" to 3" diameter and up to 8" in length.

Threading processes: acme, metric or decimal.

Thread direction: right- or left-handed.

Thread pitch: 1.25 mm thru 5.50 mm, 4TPI thru 28TPI
